Workshop:
NOVEL DATA MINING STRATEGIES FOR EXPLORING
BIOGEOCHEMICAL CYCLES AND BIOSPHERE-ATMOSPHERE INTERACTIONS
June 08-10, 2009 at the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry, Jena, Germany
Idea
Regional and global observations of biogeochemical cycles, such as ecosystem-atmosphere fluxes or biospheric responses to climate, lead to high dimensional spatiotemporal data matrices. Environmental diagnostics and prognostics under non-stationary climate conditions require insight in the coupling of multiple data streams, posing novel problems to statistics and bioinformatics. Merging the expertise from relevant backgrounds is expected to allow the identification of common goals and open new methodological perspectives.

Time line
- 08-10.06.2009 WORKSHOP
- 10.05.2009 FINAL PROGRAMME DUE
- 08.05.2009 DEADLINE FOR CONTRIBUTIONS
Organization
The format of the workshop is following the idea of a "round table" discussion. We invite you to present your ideas and relevant studies on the topic in talks, mini presentations or demonstrations. Please let us know the title and type of your contribution together with a short abstract (ca 400 words + illustrations if feasible) latest one month before the event takes place (08.05.2009). Key note lectures by Prof. Parveen Kumar (Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Illinois) and Prof. Jürgen Kurths (Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research) will help setting the stage.
Venue
Accommodation
We have made a hotel reservation for 30 people from Sun. 07-06 to Wed 10-06 (nice hotel in Jena center: Schwarzer Bär). If you plan to stay there please inform us and send us your travel plans (arrival and departure days) latest one month before the workshop takes place (08.05.2009).
