Mission of CarboEurope-IP

The terrestrial biosphere is presently taking up CO2 from the atmosphere and thus helps to slow down climate change. This service, however, is highly unstable. The present knowledge about the geographical location of this carbon sink, its driving mechanisms and likely future behaviour is inadequate. CarboEurope-IP will advance our understanding of the role of the European
continent in the global carbon cycle. 61 research centres from 17 European countries have joined forces for the 5-year EU-funded research project CarboEurope-IP started in January 2004. CarboEurope-IP addresses basic scientific questions of high relevance to climate policy. >> more
