Research interests:
- modelling an adaptive biosphere
The distribution of species plays a crucial role in determining diversity as well as biogeochemical fluxes. While climatic factors determine whether a species can exist or not, interspecific processes determine the composition of the vegetative cover. On longer time scales migration, speciation and extinction become important processes.
In order to simulate these dynamics we develop and use the JEDI model. I implement a population model to determine abundances of species populations. The next step is to implement also migration, extinction and speciation to get an diverse adaptive biosphere model that is able to react and adapt to changes e.g. of the environment.
