Nathaniel Virgo
I am a post-doctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry in Jena, Germany. I have a DPhil in Informatics from the Centre for Computational Neuroscience and Robotics at the University of Sussex, UK., on the subject of non-equilibrium thermodynamics and the origins of life.
My primary research interest is the formation of complex structures in non-equilibrium physical and chemical systems. Many examples of this can be found within the Earth system, from purely physical structures such as sand dunes and river basins, through complex networks of photochemical reactions in the atmosphere, to the structure of ecosystems and the origins of life itself.
