Postdoctoral posititon available
The Max-Planck-Institute for Biogeochemistry in Jena, Germany, invites applications for a PostDoc position in the Biospheric Theory and Modelling Group. The position is funded by the Helmholtz-Society through the Research Alliance "Planetary Evolution and Life". The Alliance is led and managed by Institut für Planetenforschung, Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt, Berlin.
We look for a creative and energetic person who will participate in our contribution to the project on “biogeochemical interactions at the surface”. The research will contribute to our model development efforts to represent the biogeochemistry of the land surface at the global scale, how it is affected by the biota, and how it has evolved throughout Earth’s history. Possible topics include: soil evolution, landscape evolution, biogeochemical processes within the soil and rivers, and applications of non-equilibrium thermodynamics and Maximum Entropy Production to these processes and biogeochemical cycles.
Applicants should have a doctoral degree in the field of geosciences. Experience with Earth system models or numerical modeling in a UNIX environment is required as well as fluent proficiency of the English language.
The position is available as soon as January 1, 2009. The envisaged duration of employment is two years. Salary and benefits are commensurate with those of public service organizations in Germany. The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply. The Max Planck Society is committed to employing more handicapped individuals and especially encourages them to apply.
For best consideration, please submit your application, including a statement of your research interests and qualifications, a curriculum vitae and the contact details of three academic referees before October 31, 2008 in electronic form to Axel Kleidon (akleidon AT bgc-jena DOT mpg DOT de).
Further information about our research can be found on the group’s web page at http://www.bgc-jena.mpg.de/bgc-theory.
