Want to know more?

Don't hesitate and e-mail any of us. check here for contact information on our Group's page. Or come and visit us at the Beutenberg Campus in Jena.

Interested in graduate study?

There are often graduate fellowships available, so just ask if an opening exists. The degrees at the institute can be granted through the Friedrich-Schiller-University in Jena (e.g. through the Geography Department), or through other universities. Also, the International Max-Planck Research School in Earth System Modeling in Hamburg offers relevant graduate courses. German universities usually require a Master degree with thesis option for admission.

Interested in an internship or a PostDoc?

You can also come and stay with us through an internship, e.g. over the summer, or as a PostDoc. There are also external funding programs available, e.g. through the Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation or the Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst. Also, find some more general information here.

Interested in Master thesis (Diplomarbeit)?

Here is a list of topics that we came up with that could form nice small projects:

  • frost heaving and optimality in a spatially explicit land model.
  • infiltration, heterogeneity and optimality in a spatially explicit land model.
  • Stomatal meltdown in a climate system model of intermediate complexity.
  • implementation of ocean box model in a climate system model of intermediate complexity.
  • simple biosphere-cloud feedbacks through aerosols.
  • optimal vegetation and (a) last glacial maximum; (b) Mid-Holocene.
  • conceptual studies of atmosphere-biosphere interactions using cellular automata or similar.
  • your own ideas?

Unfortunately, however, we are not allowed to pay a salary for Diplomarbeiten.
