Highly cited influential authors: 5 BGC scientists in citation ranking 2018

29. November 2018
The who’s who of highly cited scientific authors includes for 2018 five scientists from MPI-BGC at different career levels: Martin Heimann (Emeritus Professor), Markus Reichstein (Director), Sönke Zaehle (independent group leader), Jens Kattge (group leader) and Martin Jung (group leader). This means that MPI-BGC belongs to the top five Max Planck institutes with highly cited authors.

Most notably, Markus Reichstein, as the only Max Planck scientist and at the same time the only one from German research institutions, received his high citation ranking simultaneously in 3 out of 21 individual scientific fields. This remarkable achievement could only be reached by 24 of the 4.000 highly cited scientists worldwide.

Altogether, with 76 highly cited scientists the whole Max Planck Society ranks on 5th place among worldwide research institutions, outperformed only by Harvard University, Nat’l Institutes of Health (NIH), Stanford University and Chinese Academy of Science (see also press release of the Max Planck Society, link below the text).

The annual ranking of highly cited scientists draws on the data and analysis performed by bibliometric experts from the Institute of Scientific Information at Clarivate Analytics. The publication and citation data come from the Web of Science, a web-based database containing the scientific literature of over 30,000 journal titles.
