ATTO - Trip in November 2025

Water sampling and improvements to infrastructure and occupational safety at ATTO

Freezing of water samples, installation of a Söll safety rail on the 80m high VOC mast, and dendrometer and juice flow installation in Campina and Baixio

In November 2025, our team of six colleagues from the department traveled to Brazil. There, we worked together with staff from INPA in Manaus and a colleague from IPAM in Tanguro.

A key focus of our work was the installation of a new safety rail from Söll on the 80-meter-high VOC monitoring mast operated by the MPI-C Mainz, to improve future safety when working on the mast. Shortly after our visit, the entire VOC measurement system was replaced. Simultaneously, we equipped two new sites for Viviana Horna with dendrometers and sap flow sensors: Campina, with its white sandy soil, and Baixio, a permanently humid small valley. The differences between these sites were particularly striking.

In addition, Karl Kübler developed a new technique for freezing water samples on-site. Overall, the trip was a great professional success for us and also a valuable shared experience as a team.
