The course will cover the following aspects:

  • Overview on current benchmarking activities
  • Treatment of data errors and model-data inconsistencies
    • Examples: eddy-covariance measurements / remote sensing
  • Metrics for model evaluation
    • Frequency-based methods / Metrics: Selection of appropriate metrics
  • Introduction to model uncertainty analysis
    • Parameter screening techniques, latin hypercube sampling
  • Introduction to data assimilation methods
    • Monte-Carlo Methods, Ensemble Kalman Filters, adjoint methods
