Research Interests:

My research is focusing on the analysis of soil carbon dynamics under changing environmental conditions. I especially investigate the role of microbial biomass on soil carbon storage in an experimental mesocosm design.

Particular Interests:

  • Dynamics of soil organic matter and the feedback on the global environment
  • Linkage of C-N fluxes in plant-soil systems
  • Phosphor cycle
  • Utilisation of biochar for the improvement on soil properties

Areas of expertise and laboratory skills:

  • Experimental design
    • development of an automated incubation system to measure trace gas fluxes
    • development of a closed plant labelling system
  • Carbon isotope measurements (e.g. GC-IRMS)
  • Quantification of microbial biomass (e.g. PLFA, GC-FID)
  • Quantification of soil properties (e.g. elemental analysis)

Current Projects:

My thesis work is supported by the European Research Council (project: QUASOM)
