One year into my PhD project I am finalizing a study on the upscaling of leaf-level optimality principles to the ecosystem scale. Consequently, I will work on further analyzing the relationship between ecosystem functioning and biological-structural properties of the vegetation with the aid of global eddy covariance and remote sensing datasets. In this context, our aim is to develop metrics of ecosystem multifunctionality and relate them to habitat heterogeneity and/or biodiversity in space and time.
