Research Interests

My first research attempts started at Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences at CULS in Prague where I was studying the effect of drought on Norway spruce defense system and susceptibility to European spruce bark beetle (Ips typographus L.) attack. There I’ve first learned about the beauty of chemical ecology and the unsolved question of drought and defense. At the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry I work on the effect of drought on carbon allocation in peppermint (Mentha x piperita). I use 13C stable isotope to track carbon from its fixation site to constitutive defense compounds and to volatile organic compound (VOCs). In order to understand drought effects on carbon allocation we use air with reduced [CO2] to simulate drought induced carbon limitation.
