Description of the organization

Ecology, Systematics and Evolution (ESE) is part of Université Paris-Sud (which is a public higher education establishment) and associated with CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique). ESE is composed of about 45 scientist, 35 engineers or technicians and 30 doctorante or post-doc, and the team involved (Plant Ecophysiology, LEV) share about ¼ of ESE.

Expertise and experience of the organization

LEV combines strong observational expertise (plant physiology, soil carbon, vegetation structure, vegetation- atmosphere fluxes, remote sensing, etc.) with stand process-based modeling (e.g. forest biochemical cycles including tree growth) with emphasis on growth, carbon storage and long term climate change.

Dr. Eric Dufrêne, head of LEV (Plant Ecophysiologist) Group at ESE-UPS-Orsay, involved as researcher or PI in above mentioned EU projects. Expert in modeling forest ecosystem related processes, including carbon and water fluxes, carbon allocation and long term tree growth.
Dr. Christophe François, Expert in forest ecosystem modelisation. Established experience in remote sensing and regional simulations.
