Exactly 10 years ago, the terrestrial biosphere modelling group started to build a new biosphere component for a land-surface model, QUINCY (Quantifying the effects of interacting nutrient cycles on terrestrial biosphere dynamics and their climate feedbacks), with the aim of breaking with the constraints set by legacy models from early developments and of integrating new ecophysiological understanding in a concise and consistent manner. In this talk, I will provide some background to the developments, give an overview of our current activities, and outline key future applications of the model.
