The Hungarian Institute for Nuclear Research (ATOMKI) has a long-standing history of utilising carbon isotopes within the fields of archaeology and environmental science. ATOMKI has access to the standard gas proportional counting and liquid scintillation counting and the latest accelerator mass spectrometry, which covers the full range of 14C measurements. The laboratory also conducts methodological research into the application of novel laser-based 14C measurements. ATOMKI is the only laboratory in Hungary to perform radiocarbon services, providing 14C measurements to numerous Hungarian and international institutes. In this presentation, I will provide an overview of our carbon cycle research at ATOMKI. I will also present our current collaborative research projects, which cover topics such as atmospheric greenhouse gases, food science, bio-based carbon in fuels and plastics, and plant carbon storage.
