Climate gradients and melt-season dynamics shape dissolved organic matter composition and radiocarbon age in glacier outflows on the Tibetan Plateau

Glacier meltwater is an increasingly important source of dissolved organic matter (DOM) to alpine headwaters, but the factors controlling its composition and age are still not well understood. In this talk, I will present molecular and radiocarbon analyses of DOM from glacier outflows across the Tibetan Plateau. By combining spatial sampling across strong climatic gradients with seasonal observations from selected glaciers, this study explores how regional climate, air-mass setting, and local environmental conditions influence glacier-derived DOM. The results highlight contrasting DOM signatures between high-radiation sites with stronger in situ production signals and sites more strongly influenced by external inputs, which show greater contributions of plant-derived compounds.
