Colloquium: Christian Lessig

Machine learning models for medium-range weather forecasting have revolutionised the field and provide superior skill at a small fraction of the compute cost. In my talk, I will discuss ongoing efforts to generalize these models to complete Earth system models that include representations for ocean, sea ice and land and that make use of the plethora of observations that exist. I will also discuss recent efforts to extent machine learning models to climate time scales.
