A brief overview of the research activities of the Ecosystem Function from Earth Observation (EFEO) group
This talk presents the guiding ideas that shape the research of the Ecosystem Function from Earth Observation (EFEO) group in the BGI department. These ideas revolve around the synergistic use of satellite remote sensing signals, their application in exploring land-atmosphere biophysical feedbacks, and the role played by spatial heterogeneity and biodiversity. In doing so, we emphasize that human influence and land management are integral components of the observed signal rather than confounding factors to be removed. Together, these concepts point toward new ways of describing, characterizing, and mapping landscapes. Building on these themes, a selection of ongoing studies from the group will be presented, offering a glimpse into current work and future directions.
