Postdoc position available

The topic

You will work on advancing the application of thermodynamics and optimality principles to Earth system science. The particular topic is flexible and open to your ideas and interests. Applications to land-atmosphere interactions, ecosystems or hydrology will be preferred.

Your skills

  • A PhD in atmospheric science, environmental science or a related field.
  • Interested and motivated in advancing a novel, thermodynamic systems perspective to understanding and predicting Earth systems by relatively simple means.
  • Experience in analysing large observational environmental data at site to global scale and/or performing model simulations with state-of-the-art land, ecosystem, or Earth system models.
  • Computational experience with UNIX, R, Python or similar programming languages.
  • High level of motivation, flexibility, reliability and personal responsibility.

Our offer

The position can start as early as July 1, 2020 and will be filled when a suitable candidate has been identified. The position is planned for 3 years. Remuneration is based on qualifications and professional experience according to the TVöD (federal government). In addition, social benefits are granted according to the regulations for the public service.
