Research Interests

My recent work focus on effects of wind turbines on wind speed reduction. With off- and onshore wind park data on power production we aim to quantify the effect size. The challenge is to up scale the effect onto whole regions. With the background of a physical geographer, during my PhD I have been studying the impact of land uses on hydrological flowpaths and their effect on nutrient balances in Rondônia/Brazil. Subsequently, I have been coordinating for three years the interdisciplinary working group ‘Global Change – Regional Development’ of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and I studied changes of the water balance in Brandenburg. In 2012, I received a research stipend and moved to São Luís/Brazil for 6 month in order to study the influence of an abundant palm species on soil hydrology. Thereafter, I started to work at the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB) and participated in the EU-project EuroPruning, which looked at the feasibility of energetic use of pruning wood from orchards. My research in this project focused on the effect of leaving pruning wood in a orchard or taking it out of it on greenhouse gas emissions and soil organic carbon stocks.
