The main activity of BGC-GasLab is analysing samples of atmospheric air in glass flasks collected by the individual research groups of the institute. The samples originate mainly from remote atmospheric monitoring projects but also include some from soil air studies. A second major task is calibration of standard gases that are used as reference gases of NDIR analytical instruments which are used in airplane campaigns or at field sites. An important exercise remains the assurance of longterm consistency and international comparability of results and quality assurance (QA).
