Cooperations & Collaborations

As an internationally renowned research institution, the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry enjoys numerous national and international partners in individual research projects and in larger research networks (see our page on third-party projects).

Our Max Planck Partner Group in Bhopal investigates GHG budgets in India. The group is led by former BGC-Postdoc and now Assistant Professor Dr. Dhanyalekshmi K. Pillai, at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhopal (IISER-B).
Our Max Planck Tandem Group in Colombia investigates global wildfire activity. It is led by Associate Professor Stijn Hantsen at Universidad del Rosario.

The Friedrich Schiller University Jena provides close partnership with the Institutes for
Geosciences
Geography
Ecology
Michael Stifel Center Jena

Within the Earth System Research Partnership (ESRP) we work together with these three MPI's:
Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, Hamburg
Max Planck Institute for Chemistry, Mainz
Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research, Göttingen

With the neighboring Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology and the nearby Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History we cooperate in joint scientific projects and by exchanging resources, information, and technology.

As part of the PhD curriculum of our International Max Planck Research School for global Biogeochemical Cycles (IMPRS-gBGC), our PhD researchers perform at least 3 months of training abroad at an international institution.

Deutsches Klima Konsortium (DKK)
The Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry is member of the German Climate Consortium, a network of renowned German climate research institutions with the mandate to inform society, politicians and the media about current results of climate research and to foster dialogue between these representatives. The DKK was founded in 2008 and is based in Berlin.

Klimanavigator
Our Institute is as partner of the of the Climate Service Center Germany, a facility of the Helmholtz Center Geesthacht based in Hamburg. The task of this web portal is to meet the increasing need of society for information and advice regarding climate related issues.

German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv)
Several of our PI's and research groups are partner of the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) Halle-Jena-Leipzig located in Leipzig. The centre is headed by Director Prof. Christian Wirth, a former group leader of MPI-BGC, who also runs a Max-Planck fellow group at our institute.

NFDI Consortium Earth System Science (NFDI4Earth)
Several of our researchers and third-party projects are part of NFDI4Earth, a national endeavour which aims to meet the requirements of the different actors in Earth System Sciences. The ambition of NFDI4Earth is to further identify the demands for digital changes in the German Earth System Science community.
