|Workshop BIOMASS Secondary Mission Products|
November 25, 2021
The project BIOMASS is an initiative of the Max-Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry, the German Aerospace Center (DLR), the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research and the Department for Remote Sensing at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena.
Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology the project aims to build up a user community and to share relevant information on the ESA Earth Explorer mission BIOMASS. ESA's seventh Earth Explorer, the BIOMASS mission, will provide important information about the land biosphere, in particular the state of our forests, in the context of the global carbon cycle. The mission is expeted to be launched in 2023.
The third virtual workshop on “BIOMASS Secondary Mission Products” wil take place on November 25, 2021. It is jointly organized with with our project partner, Kostas Papathanassiou fom the German Aerospace Center.
|COP26 DKN-Side-Event with Markus Reichstein|
November 5, 2021
As part of the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP 26) currently taking place in Glasgow, Scotland, Director Markus Reichstein will participate as a speaker in the DKN online side event "Sustainability and climate services for transformation: preparing for climate extremes". The side event will take place on Friday, November 5, 2021 at 14:00-15:00 GMT (15:00-16:00 CET) as part of the German Climate Pavilion program at COP 26.
Following an introduction and presentation of the speakers, there will be an open panel discussion on climate services. How can societies worldwide be supported to better adapt to and mitigate climate change? What is needed to help societies prepare for current and future climate risks and become more resilient? This session will also address how climate service products can be made available and useful for a shift toward global sustainability. Speakers Michael Bollig, Daniela Jacob, Vladimir Naranjo Castillo, and Markus Reichstein will also discuss the role of international cooperation.

RADIOCARBON SHORT COURSE 2021 – ECOSYSTEMS
The course will give an introduction to 14C Nomenclature and Mixing Models Soil C Dynamics ISRaD
Paricipants will learn how to analyze and interpret 14C data and how to use 14C-specific R-packages. These skills will be developed by solving real-world science problems in terrestrial ecosystem and soil science while working with actual 14C datasets.
Details on the course days are in the flyer.
