Science communication officer

As a science communicator, I consider myself someone who assists scientists to share their research with the public. I take care of press requests, the website and social media, and provide scientists with opportunities to talk about their science, offering guidance and support along the way.

Science communication for the project ATTO - Amazon Tall Tower Observatory:

  • contact person for all press requests, coordination of media visits to ATTO
  • webmaster, content manager and editor for the project website
  • social media manager for the project's social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, YouTube)
  • creating graphics for the website, social media, as well as print products (flyers, infographics)
  • support of the internal project communication and coordination

Public Outreach for MPI-BGC

  • social media manager for the institute's Twitter account
  • assisting with various PR-related things (website, events, press releases, etc.)
  • responsible for the website of the department Biogeochemical Processes

Curriculum Vitae

Having studied Geology and gained a PhD in paleoclimatology, I have a solid background in Earth Sciences. I then joined a communications agency to train in public relations and science communication. With these combined skills I have now returned to my hometown of Jena and the institute I first visited as a high school intern many years ago, to support my research colleagues in their communication and public relations efforts.

  • since 2018: Public Relations Officer for ATTO and responsible for the Twitter Account of the MPI-BGC
  • 2016-2018: Public relations trainee and the Junior PR Consultant at KOMPAKTMEDIEN Agentur für Kommunikation in Berlin, focused on the "Year of Science 2016*17 - Seas and Oceans" initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Science and Education
  • 2015-2016: Post-doctoral research fellow at the Lamont-Doherty-Earth-Observatory of the Columbia University in New York, working on reconstructing oceanic pH during the Eocene
  • 2011-2014: PhD researcher at the Goethe-University Frankfurt/Main, reconstruction of changes in deep ocean temperature, ecology and circulation during the Eocene and Miocene
  • 2010: exchange semester at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA
  • 2005-2011: University degree (equ. MS) in Geology at the Friedrich-Schiller-University, Jena
