Eliane Gomes Alves receives Outstanding Early Career Scientist Award
European Geosciences Union honors Eliane Gomes Alves, project leader in the Trumbore department, with the Outstanding Early Career Scientist Award.
The European Geosciences Union (EGU) has recently announced the awardees of Union Medals and Awards, Division Medals, and Division Outstanding Early Career Scientist Awards. In the Biogeosciences (BG) Division, Eliane Gomes Alves, project leader from the Trumbore department in the ATTO project, received the Outstanding Early Career Scientist Award for her important contribution to the Earth, planetary and space sciences. The award ceremonies will be held during the EGU General Assembly in April 2024.
Eliane Gomes Alves deciphers the role of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) as important mediators of forest-atmosphere interactions. Emitted by trees as a stress response, VOCs can be regarded as indicators of forest stress and forest vulnerability. Eliane’s research concentrates on Amazonian ecosystems. Her results on VOC emissions shed light on their important interactions with the climate system in the Amazon.
Eliane’s presentation of her award-winning work, held at the EGU meeting in Vienna, can also be watched virtually on Thursday, April 18, 19:00.
