Description
This skill course provides basic insights into the laboratory techniques weighing and pipetting which are applied to resolve key questions in global biogeochemistry and related Earth system sciences.
The course is divided into two parts:
A. Electronic weighing principles - October 17
- How much is a Gram
- Analytical balance and electromagnetic force compensation
- Metric systems and traceability
- How to install the balance and using an Analytical Balance
- Calibration and calibration certificate
- Uncertainty of your balance
B. Pipetting principles - October 18
- Differentiation between pipette types: Air displacement and positive displacement
- Quality, accuracy and precision
- Pipette tips
- Pipetting techniques & principles: direct, indirect and positive displacement
- Multichannel pipette
- Avoidance of congestion and injury
