COP27: Drought a global challenge

Ana Bastos will participate in a round table discussion about drought impacts in the EU side events at COP27.
Drought events affect key socio-economic sectors as well as ecosystems, often triggering cascade effects and in some cases shocks. In 2022, the world has experienced several concurrent and compound extreme events. In Europe, drought and heatwaves caused severe impacts. In East Africa, persistent drought conditions triggered humanitarian crisis. In the coming decades, drought events are projected to occur more often, affect larger areas and become more severe. Unprecedented events may also occur.
