Understanding and managing forest fires in tropical ecosystems

Forest fires are prevalent in most tropical ecosystems, with considerable attention given to the devastating effects of Amazonian deforestation fires. However, there is limited knowledge about the occurrence, trends, and impacts of fires in other tropical regions. Within the Max-Planck tandem group at Universidad del Rosario in Bogotá, Colombia, we are actively working to advance our understanding of fire impacts across various tropical ecosystems. In this seminar, I will introduce the Tandem research group, providing an overview of our ongoing projects. I will present results on the paramo ecosystem and Orinoco savannas, shedding light on the specific challenges regarding managing forest fires in these systems and insights gained from our research.
