Impact of fire extremes on the Earth system

Tandem group with Universidad del Rosario, Bogotá, Kolumbien

The Tandem Group studies the impacts of fires at a local to global scale, ranging from detailed studies on how fires impact sensitive tropical ecosystems, such as paramos, an alpine tundra ecosystems located in the Andes Mountain Range, to the impact of fire extremes across the globe.

The group uses remotely sensed data to understand fire occurrence and their ecosystem impact, in combination with simulations performed by global fire-vegetation models. The Tandem group leads the work in cooperation and with guidance of modeling, measurement and remote sensing experts in the Biogeochemical Signals Department of the MPI-BGC.
