At the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry we focus on observing and diagnosing the current rapid changes of trace element cycles like carbon and water in the Earth System, specifically the connections among land ecosystems, the atmosphere and climate. [more]
Our research stations, often built with partner institutions, are distributed worldwide, owing to the global topic of our research. We have field sites in Thuringa, across Europe, but also far away in northern Canada and the Amazon rainforest. [more]
To study the exchange of essential elements, water and energy in different ecosystems, we collect and analyze air, water, soil and plant samples. For high-precision analyses we operate specialized service laboratories in our institute. [more]
