Is tree planting an effective strategy for climate change mitigation? A look at global energy and biogeochemical cycles.
Forests are an important part of the global carbon cycle, and the talk will begin with description of some details of key global fluxes that are not always considered. The talk will then focus on feedbacks in the global carbon cycle after an initial perturbation through planting trees.Trees also affect the earth’s energy budget through modifying the fraction of solar radiation being reflected or absorbed. All these factors affect the climate, and the talk will try to assess and quantify the effect of tree planting on climate-change impacts.
