Webinar on land-atmosphere CO2 exchange

  • Start: Sep 24, 2024 02:00 PM (Local Time Germany)
  • End: Sep 27, 2024 12:00 PM
  • Location: Online
  • Host: Max-Planck-Institut für Biogeochemie
The webinar provides an overview of land-atmosphere CO2 exchange, how it is measured, and how these measurements inform our models and understanding. The presentation will focus on different methodologies used for estimating CO2 exchange, including top-down and bottom-up approaches, and the strengths and limitations of each method.

September 24, Tuesday, 2 pm-5 pm

Talks: Measurement techniques

The first day will focus on the measurement techniques, and observationalnetworks that are the basis of our understanding of land-atmosphere CO2 exchange. We will discuss the the eddy-covariance network, and novel uses of O2 measurements for understanding the carbon cycle.

Speakers:

• Tarek El-Madany (Eddy-covariance measurements)

• Ingrid Luijkx (O2 measurements)

September 26, Thursday, 9 am-12 pm

Talks : Modeling applications of carbon observation

Speakers:

• Christian Rödenbeck (Jena Carboscope)

• Jake Nelson (FLUXCOM X-BASE)

• Auke Van Der Woude (Carbon tracker)

September 27, Friday, 9 am-12 pm

Talks : Modeling applications of carbon observation

Day three again focuses on the relationship between observations and modeling land-atmosphere CO2 exchange.

Speakers:

• Santiago Botia (ATTO and regional transport)

• Sönke Zaehle (Global BGC modeling)
