Drought damages trees and forest soils

In addition to the bark beetle and storms, exceptional drought in particular has damaged forests in recent years. Scientists from the project-leading Swiss Research Institute and the University of Trier in an international consortium have found that the "drought stress" of the trees also has a negative effect on the forest soil. As a result, fewer important minerals are available for plants. However, small amounts of water are sufficient to reactivate the processes.
