Amazonia hosts the Earth’s largest tropical forests and has been shown to be an important carbon sink over recent decades, which seems to be in decline as a result of factors such as deforestation and climate change. In addition, almost 20% of Amazonia is permanently or seasonally inundated, and these aquatic habitats are a major methane source to the atmosphere. In this presentation will be presented methane and carbon dioxide estimates over nine-years in Amazonia, also its drivers. These estimates are based on lower-troposphere vertical profile observations using small aircraft.
