Vanessa-Nina Roth receives doctoral thesis award

For her excellent PhD thesis Vanessa-Nina Roth was awarded the doctoral prize of the Faculty for Chemistry and Earth Sciences of the Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena.

In her research, the environmental chemist investigated dissolved organic matter from different ecosystems with regard to their molecular composition and how this composition is influenced by the prevalent environmental conditions. Her results strongly indicate that the molecular composition of dissolved organic matter is influenced by the key factors pH and temperature and that the molecules contain information on their origin and the processes in the respective ecosystem.

The award - endowed by the Society to promote Geosciences in Jena – was presented during the official graduation celebration of the FSU on November 21, 2014.
