Forest-Climate Forum: Experts discuss approaches to saving the forests

17. Januar 2022
Can the forest regenerate itself or will people need to help? What will the forest of the future look like in view of the major climatic challenges and what role will forestry and the timber industry play in this? These questions preoccupy not only the scientific community, but also interested citizens. Opinions on the subject are not infrequently far apart and, in view of the concern for "our" forest, there are sometimes passionate discussions in the scientific community and in the media.

The 1st Forest-Climate-Forum in Warstein from 20-22 June 2022, a symposium for the exchange of forestry and forest scientists as well as experts from business and politics, therefore has a clear goal: the joint development of solutions in an increasingly polarized debate about the future of the German forest. To this end, the organizers of the Aktion Baum initiative invite you to the Warsteiner Welt for keynote speeches, workshops, round table discussions and informal exchanges.

The scientific patronage of the symposium is the scientific advisory board of Aktion Baum, the so-called Brain Board: Prof. Bill Hansson (Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology, Jena), Dr. Sigrid Netherer (University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna), Prof. Carola Paul (Georg August University, Göttingen) and Dr. Henrik Hartmann (Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry, Jena).

Among the speakers who have confirmed their attendance are:
- Professor Dr. Hans-Joachim Schellnhuber, co-founder of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research
- Professor Dr. Christian Ammer (Chair of Silviculture and Forest Ecology at the University of Göttingen)
- Professor Dr. Andreas Bolte, Director of the Thünen Institute for Forest Ecosystems in Eberswalde
- Dr. Jeanette Blumröder, Chair of Nature Conservation, University for Sustainable Development Eberswalde

"The forum is deliberately aimed at participants with a wide range of interests, we want to soften the current polarization in the public debate and enable an open-ended discourse" says Dr. Henrik Hartmann. "For this purpose we invited also well-known personalities such as the book author Peter Wohlleben or Knut storm of the city forest Luebeck" supplements Professor Bill Hansson. Various nature conservation and interest groups and, of course, representatives of politics, ranging from local elected representatives to state and federal politicians, were also requested.

The forum will take place at Warsteiner Welt, registrations for interested persons are possible by the day or for the entire duration and include coffee breaks and evening events including dinner. In addition, tickets for online participation and livestream are offered.
