International workshop on tree mortality

20. Oktober 2014
Observed increased mortality related to drought and heat spells in a number of forests across the globe has resulted in increased research on stress physiology. Many studies have been carried out and good progress in our understanding of the underlying processes has been made over the last few years. However, no common explanation has emerged as to the actual cause of drought-induced tree death and further knowledge gain of fundamental physiological processes in response to environmental stress seems to be slowing down.

The workshop is intended to bring together mostly early-career scientists working with tree hydraulics, carbon dynamics, pests and disease, genetics, ecology (spanning across scales), modelers and long-term forest monitoring. Participants are expected to share their most nagging questions relating to tree stress/decline/mortality in their particular field and interdisciplinary breakout groups will try to initiate synergistic collaborations.
