Sönke Zaehle receives Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize

Sönke Zaehle, young researcher at our institute, is amongst the laureates of the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize awarded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Federal Ministry for Education and Research for outstanding achievements.

Sönke Zaehle studied geo-ecology and environmental sciences in Braunschweig and Norwich, and holds a PhD from the University of Potsdam and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. During his PostDoc at the Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l’Environnement in Gif-sur-Yvette he became interested in studying the interactions between the terrestrial biosphere and the climate system using comprehensive numerical models.
His current research focuses on Earth system models where he includes ecosystem processes and the dynamic of nutrient cycling.

The Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize, valued at €20,000, will officially be awarded on May 12, 2014 in Berlin.
