New Collaborative Research Center 'AquaDiva'
How do surface conditions and local geology set the functional biodiversity of the subsurface? To answer this question, the Collaborative Research Center AquaDiva will investigate the important roles of water (Aqua) and biodiversity (Diva) for shaping the structure, properties and functions of the subsurface, the part of the Earth’s Critical Zone that begins below the highest density of plant roots and extends down into the first aquifers.
The newly funded Collaborative Research Center is coordinated by spokeswoman Prof. Kirsten Küsel (FSU Jena) and includes Helmholtz-Zentrum für Umweltforschung Leipzig, Institut für Photonische Technologien Jena, and Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry (S. Trumbore).
