Das Forschungsprojekt ATTO schickt Schüler*innen ab Klassenstufe 8 mit „Mission ATTO“ auf eine fiktive Forschungsreise in den brasilianischen Regenwald.
Eine neue Studie zeigt eine natürliche Lösung zur Abschwächung von Auswirkungen des Klimawandels wie extremen Wetterereignissen auf. Forschende fanden heraus, dass eine vielfältige Pflanzenwelt als Puffer gegen Schwankungen der Bodentemperatur wirkt. Dieser Puffer wiederum kann einen entscheidenden Einfluss auf wichtige Ökosystemprozesse haben.
Die Kohlenstoffspeicherung im Boden kann dazu beitragen, den Klimawandel abzumildern. Eine neue Studie zeigt, dass die Bildung mineralgebundener organischer Substanz in erster Linie von der Mineralart abhängt, aber auch durch Landnutzung und Bewirtschaftungsintensität beeinflusst wird.
Die Zukunft des Amazonas-Regenwaldes und dessen Einfluss auf das Weltklima standen im Mittelpunkt des Besuchs von Frank-Walter Steinmeier und Steffi Lemke am ATTO in Brasilien. Der Bundespräsident und die Bundesumweltministerin besuchten am 2. Januar die deutsch-brasilianische Forschungsstation.
Prof. Susan Trumbore erhält den William Kaula-Preis der AGU, mit dem "eine Person ausgezeichnet wird, die dem Publikationsprogramm der AGU und der wissenschaftlichen Gemeinschaft durch außergewöhnlichen Einsatz und Bemühungen selbstlos gedient hat".
